Something very special took place at Bracken this week! The student council held the 1st annual "Christmas Boutique" as a fundraiser for the orphan-care ministry, Hope for Orphans. Donated items such as scarves, jewelry, purses and earrings were put on display in a room that was set up as a Christmas store. The students came over one class at a to purchase items for their moms, grandmas, aunts, and other special ladies in their lives. Their little faces were priceless as they asked our helpers "don't you think my mommy would like these?" One by one they made their selections, and were even able to "check out" like big kids. Then each gift was wrapped and placed in a big bag for the children to carry home, so that their gifts could be placed under the tree. One little girl even brought her purse from home to hold her money. It was absolutely precious! The Christmas miracle was that we had hoped to be able to donate $200 to Hope for Orphans. At the end of the two days, over $1600 was raised!! The president of Hope for Orphans, Mr. Paul Pennington, was so humbled and amazed at the students and families of Bracken. He plans to have an article written in the Hope for Orphans newsletter about our school. To find out more about Hope for Orphans, please visit www.hopefororphans.org.
Thank you Bracken for showing your love to orphans around the world!
"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world"
Kindergarten student Claire Stocking brought along her purse and shopped like mommy
Pre-K 4 Christmas shoppers loved shopping like big kids at the boutique
The Bracken Student Council has been busy this year with different projects helping those in need. In addition to Hope for Orphans, the Student Council will be sponsoring a gift giving project this year benefiting the Samaritan's Purse Gift Catalog. This is a way of giving gifts that will last more than a day and can greatly impact the lives of people for a long time in Jesus name.
Samaritans Purse has a great reputation and only have about 10-15% overhead expenses ministry wide. Packaging and shipping can be pretty pricey sometimes. Hopefully this can help get the best bang for the buck for our brothers and sisters in Christ world-wide.
Suggested gifts and amounts are posted next to the trees in the elementary and MS/HS buildings. Students, families, staff etc. may bring in any amount to one of those offices and let either Tammy know what project they would like the money to go toward. They will keep a record of the giving. "Tabs" with the type of gift will be put on an ornament to be put on the tree. Each ornament will represent a ministry gift.
Thank you for considering supporting this project and sharing the blessings the Lord has given you with others in need.
