Dear Bracken Families,
I just wanted to personally let you know the great joy it was to have our wonderful students, (your children), back on campus this week. We had a great first day, and am looking forward to greater and greater things throughout the year. Thank you Bracken parents, for partnering with us, as we strive always to MAKE AN IMPACT, not just an impression. You are the best. Let me know if I can ever be of service to you.
Ed Thomas, Superintendent
Bracken Christian School
Here are some highlights of this week in pictures:
Today would have been David’s 32nd birthday.
David began going to school at Bracken Christian School in the 8th grade. He had always been quiet and usually had one close friend. While at Bracken his friend list grew and his love for the Lord did as well.
He loved sports but he could not play any contact sports because David had a heart defect. He had to have open heart surgery at 2 weeks of age. In spite of that he flourished. He played softball and was manager for the basketball team. He was very involved in Boy Scouts; he loved sharks, sports and hanging out with his friends, especially with the love of his live. David wanted to be a marine biologist for a while but was also interested in architecture.
On January 31, 2002 David went to be with the Lord. He had a heart arrhythmia while in P.E. He was 18 years old. He has two brothers, Michael and Matthew, and two loving parents, Larry and Mary McNeill.
A memorial pond was placed in loving memory of David by his family and is located in the middle of our courtyard. The pond was financed and built by the science club and Mr. Ross, the maintenance director during that time.
Today we honor David’s life and pray many blessings for the McNeill family. May you feel the Lord’s presence especially today.
The Bracken Christian School Booster Club is a non-profit, parent-run organization that provides support and encouragement to all our BCS student athletes! As the new season is upon us feel free to shop on line and support your athlete and Bracken Christian School. All t-shirt with Bracken Christian's name on them are allowed to be worn on Bracken Casual Fridays (jeans and t-shirts). This year we will be using Fan Cloth - catalogs will be available soon!
Throughout the year, the BCS Booster Club meets regularly, hosts special events, and provides ongoing support to our BCS athletic teams. If you are interested in participating please contact Terri Sanders, email@example.com. The more parents that are involved, the more successful the Booster Club!
Funding support is made possible through Booster memberships, sponsorships, advertising and concessions.
The Texas sales tax holiday begins this Friday to Aug 9. Local retailers waive sales taxes on an assortment of school supplies and some clothing, as long as they cost lest than $100.
Download a copy of your child's school supply list and take it with you when you shop. Their supplies can be brought in and dropped off during Back to School Night on Monday, August 24th from 6:30-8pm.
Believe it or not, it's here. Not just the heat but High School athletics and physicals.
August 3 is the date set for physicals. The physicals are being held from 9:00am-12:00noon in the high school building (Building 700). When the slots are full, we will not be able to take any more students. ALL ATHLETES PLAYING IN ANY SPORT AT BRACKEN MUST HAVE A PHYSICAL AND A CONCUSSION SCREENING BEFORE PARTICIPATING IN ANY SPORT. You do not have to get your physical completed at Bracken as you can use your own doctor. You can also schedule a concussion screening at Texas Physical Therapy, 184 Creekside Park, Spring Branch, TX, 830-980-4565). Please pick up (or download here) the physical packet and have the doctor use our form. All the pages in the packet must be filled out and signed and returned by the first day of practice. All athletes who did not have a concussion screening last year, must complete a concussion screening this year as we complete concussion screenings every other year. Usually that would be in 6th grade, 8th grade, 10th grade and 12th grade. If you are a new student, you will need to complete the screening this year……regardless of what grade you are in.
August 3 is also the first day of practice for all high school fall sports – football, volleyball and cross country. If any high school student wants to participate on these teams, they must attend the practices beginning on these dates.
High School football practices will be from 7:30-12:30pm. On Monday, there will be a meeting at the beginning and then you can go take your physical before actually participating in football practices. Every day there will be a break from 9:30-10:30 in which boys are asked to bring a snack and Gatorade/Powerade for this time. Water will be provided. The varsity football season schedule should be on line by the first week of August. Warrior football t-shirts will be available for $10 for the athletes to purchase to wear to practice each day.
High School volleyball practice on Monday, Aug. 3, will be from 10:30-11:00, then 11:45-2:45. On Tuesday-Thursday, the schedule is 9:00-10:30 then 11:30-2:30. A calendar of all practices, games, etc. for volleyball is listed on the Bracken website under athletic tab and slide down to volleyball.
High School Cross Country athletes will meet with Coach Jack on Aug. 3 at 8:30 am for a brief meeting and then get your physical at Bracken (if you have made an appointment) and then on the Aug. 4 at 7:00am.
Middle School football begins Aug. 10. Since we begin school later this year and our first middle school football game is on Aug. 27, we are beginning middle school football before school starts. The practices will run from 7:30am-12:30pm taking a break from 9:30-10:30 (where each athlete should bring a healthy snack and Gatorade/Powerade drink to replenish). The MS football season schedule should be on line by the first week in August. Warrior football t-shirts will be available for the football players to purchase to wear to practice each day. The shirts will be $10.
Middle school volleyball practices begin on the Aug. 27. Practices will be during 7th period – from 2:30-3:30.
Middle School cross country practices begin on Aug. 27. In the past, Coach Jack has allowed middle school cross country runners to practice with high school until school begins…….then the Middle School cross country team will practice during 7th period – 2:30-3:30pm.
