Our fifth grade DIY (Do It Yourself) class was busy in the kitchen this morning making their lunch. They filled the elementary halls with the aroma of spaghetti and meatballs cooking on the stove, and cupcakes baking in the oven.
The Bracken Christian School DIY program empowers our students to expand their independence through cooking, crafting, gardening and sewing. This program is one of our curriculum enrichment programs that spans throughout our elementary school. In addition to the DIY activities during school, Mrs. Theresa Serna also offers sewing classes after school where children of all abilities learn to sew by both machine and by hand.

Nakalanga Paul, or Paul Nakalanga as his American friends and family call him, gave a beautiful testimony about family today. If you haven’t had the privilege to meet Paul, he is one of our sophomores and is here in the United States on a student visa from Uganda. This is his second year at Bracken Christian School. Paul is the second youngest in a family of seven children in Uganda; only three go to school, however, he is the only one in the United States.
God is working in a wonderful way at Bracken Christian School. Our field house has begun to take shape. This is a great need for our school, and God is working to meet that need. This has been a vision for some time, however, as we all know, God works in His time, and sometimes we have to be patient in waiting for Him. We then, must be willing to move when He reveals that it is time.
We want to share with you that God, working through at least five Bracken families and others have allowed us to begin moving dirt where we broke ground May 12th, 2016. After a lengthy permitting process and prayerful planning meetings, early this week the donations of materials and labor allowed us to begin the site preparation. We also have the generous promise of the building foundation. Before we can pour the foundation we must have the plumbing roughed-in, and though we aren't fully funded for that phase we already have most of the materials promised and a generous contribution towards the labor.
Through the donations, gifts and investments of His people, specifically for this project, God has provided the foundation of our building. We wanted all of our Bracken family to celebrate with us, as we continue on this journey. Please pray, as we believe that God will continue His provision and blessing on Bracken. Should God be calling you to contribute time, money, skill, or expertise for this project please contact Ed Thomas, Candice Thompson or Jerry Beene.
